Me

Hello.  I’m Katie, dollmaker for Millie’s Dollhouse. I was raised in Michigan and now live with my husband and three children in Central Indiana.  I have had a passion for creating since I was a small child.  As an adult, I have found dollmaking to be the perfect outlet for me to indulge this creative side in so many different ways.   Planning and dreaming up each unique doll.  Selecting fabrics and combining them for the exact look I want.  Perfecting the detailed sewing and embroidery each doll requires.  Crocheting each tiny little shoe.  Working with beautiful, natural fibers whenever possible.  Even choosing the perfect name for each completed doll.   I simply adore creating dolls, from start to finish.

In 2005 I made my first dolls for my then newborn twin boys.  They were quite different from the dolls I make now, but they were soft and sweet and I fell in love with them and the creative process instantly.  I made just a few over the next several years as time allowed, which of course was almost never with new twin babies to care for.

It wasn't until 2010, after having my daughter, that the inspiration and urge to create dolls finally took over and I began making dolls again.  Soon, my daughter Millie’s bedroom began to fill with dolls leading my husband to nickname her room “Millie’s Dollhouse”.  When I opened my shop in early 2011, I couldn’t think of a more fitting name than Millie’s Dollhouse.  It’s the happy place in our home where there’s always a doll ready and waiting for a comforting snuggle, a playful adventure or just to sit and listen to whatever secrets my children want to whisper in their little ears.   Millie’s Dollhouse is a special place and my hope is that each doll that leaves my studio brings a tiny bit of that special magic with them to their new home.

All the best,

Katie
